  7. Announcing the John J. Frey, MD Writing Award

    We are excited to announce a new award honoring our past Department of Family Medicine Chair, Dr. John Frey. The John J. Frey, MD Writing Award has been created to recognize individuals in the Department of Family Medicine for their contributions of creative writing.

    We encourage all interested members of the department - faculty, fellows, residents, FMIG students, and staff to submit editorials, essays, stories, commentaries, poetry, and narratives to be considered. These writings do not need to have been published and research articles are excluded. Read more... »

  8. Chair's Comments - Winter 2009

    Welcome again to our newsletter. With the help of Kim Jansen, who has returned from maternity leave, and Terri Little, we are attempting to resume our monthly format. Also, with our very capable webmaster, Jim Witkins, and in response to the prior questionnaire, we are exploring more user friendly formats.   9. Chair's Comments - Fall 2009

    Thanks to the 116 who responded to the survey in the last issue about this newsletter. 78% of respondents rated the newsletter as good or excellent, so we will continue.  The most popular items were updates and upcoming events, while the least popular were presentations and grants received by faculty.  We will work to condense, or introduce links for some areas; however this issue retains the old format.   10. From the Chair's Office - July 2009

    FY10 Budget Update

    For the last several months I have been reporting on our budget and the good news is that it is improving.  The bad news is that it is not completely gone.  We are projecting cuts of 1-3%, but may not need them.  We have asked our units to give us their priorities for cuts.  We feel we can tolerate these cuts without affecting critical areas.  Thanks to our Finance Team and all of our Managers who have worked so diligently.
