Faculty Profile: Rebecca Beach, MD

Please join us in welcoming Rebecca Beach, MD to the Department of Family Medicine.  Dr. Beach has been a faculty member at the UW Health Oregon Clinic since August 2011.

Becky was born in East Lansing, Michigan, grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and attended both the University of Notre Dame and Ohio State University before bringing home a bachelor’s degree in chemistry in psychology, a deep love of the Midwest, and an overdose of college football.  To compensate, she then received her medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, where she was the only member of the class of 1990 to select family medicine residency.  She completed her residency at the Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois, where she also served as Chief Resident, assuring countless faculty during her final months that she had “no interest” in academic medicine.

She spent the next seven years in community practice, several of them locum tenens, increasingly enjoying opportunities for teaching as they arose, and improving her medical Spanish a bit.  When looking to settle down with a permanent job after a locum tenens position in 2000, she found herself looking for residency jobs in the Midwest.  Three years of full time faculty at Union Hospital Family Medicine Residency in Terre Haute, Indiana and eight years with Mercy Hospital Family Medicine Residency in Janesville, Wisconsin, followed.

Dr. Beach has completed a Primary Care Faculty Development Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin.  She served as Chair of Family Medicine at Mercy Hospital in Janesville from 2006-2008.  She won the Rex Kolste award for teaching excellence in 2009.

Rebecca’s professional interests include family centered obstetrics, preventive medicine, evidence based practice, and trying to maintain a full-spectrum practice.

Outside of medicine, Rebecca enjoys her family, and tries to stay active with karate.
