    Interprofessional Education

    As healthcare transitions more and more to team-based, it is vital that there is interprofessional education for both students and faculty. Interprofessional education (also known as inter-professional education or “IPE”) refers to occasions when students from two or more professions in health and social care learn together during all or part of their professional training with the object of cultivating collaborative practicefor providing patient-centered healthcare.   2. Unlocking Intrinsic Motivation

    At a recent UW SMPH Faculty Development Workshop, Dan Sklanksy, MD  discussed applying the principles of self-determination theory to foster intrinsic motivation in residents. Self-determination theory is based on our “our natural or intrinsic tendencies to behave in effective and healthy ways.” Autonomy, competence (mastery) and relatedness (purpose) are of the cornerstones of the theory.   3. New Faculty Announcement: Anna Veach, DO

    We are pleased Anna Veach, DO, has joined the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health as a Clinical Assistant Professor.

    Starting October 1, 2017, Dr. Veach will be providing primary care at Arboretum Clinic, as well as OMT consults at Research Park Integrative Medicine Consult Service. Dr. Veach will also spend time precepting residents and educating in the statewide DO residency program. Read more... »

    We are pleased Emily Peterson, MD, has joined the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health as a Clinical Assistant Professor. 
     
    Starting September 18, 2017, Dr. Peterson will be taking on clinical responsibilities at the UW Health Beaver Dam Clinic, as well as hospitalist responsibilities at The American Center.
     
    Dr. Peterson received her medical degree from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI and is a graduate of the Wisconsin Academy for Rural Medicine (WARM).
